Objectives
What Skagit River Steel & Recycling needed from this website design project, and what we built for it.
The goal
Show what the yard takes and what it sells
What we built
Recycling services and metal sales are separate parts of the site, each with its own pages, so a contractor looking to sell scrap and a fabricator looking to buy steel both land in the right place.
The goal
Make it easy to call or ask for a quote
What we built
The phone number, hours and address sit in the top bar of every page, with a click-to-call button and a contact form that asks only for what is needed.
The goal
Be found in Skagit County and the surrounding area
What we built
An areas-we-serve section, LocalBusiness schema and page titles written for the searches people in Burlington, Mount Vernon and Anacortes actually make.
The goal
Load fast on phones
What we built
Built mobile-first, with compressed images, critical CSS, caching and a CDN, tuned for Core Web Vitals.
The goal
Fit the ABC Recycling family
What we built
A design that stands on its own but shares the structure of the ABC Recycling site, so both can be maintained the same way.
Prototyping
Skagit River Steel & Recycling, page by page, before colour and photos.
The home page and the main inner pages as greyscale wireframes, for desktop and for phones. With colour and photography taken out, what is left is the structure: where the navigation, headings, images and calls to action sit on each page.

Colour and style
The look of Skagit River Steel & Recycling.
Deep blue with one safety-orange accent for calls to action, condensed uppercase headings and aerial photography of the yard, so the first screen reads as a working scrapyard before a word is read.

Content
What the site says, and where.
Recycling services are split by customer: ferrous and non-ferrous metals, commercial recycling, scrap collection with bin sizes, construction and demolition, and farm recycling. Metal sales lists what is stocked and what can be ordered, cut and delivered. Careers, community and the family history each have their own section.
